️ Safe Space Statement
At Shoalhaven Family Medical Centres (SFMC), your well-being is our highest priority.
We are proud to be a Safe Space for all members of our community—patients, carers, families, and staff—regardless of background, identity, or life experience.
What “Safe Space” Means at SFMC:
♀️ Respect for All
Everyone is treated with kindness, dignity, and non-judgment—every visit, every interaction.
Mental Health Matters
We are trained to recognise distress and support those experiencing a mental health crisis. Our practice includes Credentialed Mental Health Nurses, GPs trained in mental health care, and access to onsite or referred psychological support.
Inclusive and Affirming Care
We welcome people of all ages, abilities, cultural backgrounds, sexualities, genders, and spiritual beliefs. We use inclusive language and offer culturally safe care, including access to interpreting services and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health supports.
Zero Tolerance for Aggression
We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for aggression, bullying, harassment, racism, or discrimination of any kind, whether toward staff or fellow patients.
⚖️ Confidentiality and Privacy
Your information, story, and care are kept private. Our staff follow strict privacy laws and ethical obligations, ensuring your rights are always protected.
Support in Crisis
If you’re in distress—physically, emotionally, or in crisis—you will be seen, supported, and offered appropriate follow-up. We’ll prioritise your care and safety if you or someone you know is at immediate risk.
Staff Training and Commitment
All staff participate in regular training related to:
- Mental health first aid
- Cultural safety and trauma-informed care
- Family and domestic violence response
- Disability awareness
- LGBTQIA+ inclusivity
- Privacy, communication, and patient rights
Need a quiet place, help communicating, or feeling unsafe?
Please speak to our reception staff, nurse, or your GP. We’re here to support you.
Together, we create a healthcare space that’s safe, inclusive, and grounded in compassion.
